That's exactly the point.

Few cars (Elise being one) can very easily be optimised for both. The McLaren has some interesting solutions.

I had my Exige set up by a race garage.

But they did 75% of the testing on the road and just a half day at Castle Combe, most of it with me driving.

They turned the car into the best handling road car I (and the mechanics and garage owner) have ever driven. By far. Ralston drove it through the N. Yorks moors after he'd test driven a dealer's car and reckoned the difference was night and day.

I think what you mean is, you wouldn't want a road car set up for the track, which I'd agree with.
It's more to do with the fight involved in getting "racers" to understand that one wants a road car, not a track car, if you can get past that hurdle, then you may well be on to something.

Having said that, an Exige isn't a suitable road car for me anyway, as I can barely get in and out of the damn things

Sounds like you could do with some mods of your own, shiny new Mugen hip for example

This is a really great thread. Would I buy a modded car from an unknown person? No I'd most likely walk away, depending on the mods carried out, and by whom. As an example, if a car had a simple light modding such as an AEM intake already installed, I would still buy it; if the suspension had been modded "by my mate in his garage, round his Mum's; but he knows what he's doing" I'd walk immediately.

Would I buy a car from MB for example? Probably, as he spends an extraordinary amount of time researching the best bits to buy to solve a particular issue (the track focussed road going predecessor as an example).

Would i want a car that had previously been modded to within an inch of it's life, and parted out? Hmm, not sure about that, but probably not TBH, especially if stress and strain had been placed on the original OEM parts by those mods.

Anyone worth their salt is more likely to be spending their time talking clueless modders out of full-on track set ups.

I wouldn't touch a car that's been significantly modded and then returned to stock with a barge pole. I'd rather buy it with the mods still on and at least know how well the work was done etc. than buy something with a flaky history.

But then i wouldn't buy a modified car anyway.

Im looking for a MK5 Golf 1.9 TDI , eventually spotted the right one on
Autotrader. Then I caught sight of the red calipers as I pulled up to view-
so I carried on.

Russ.

Unless it has ceramic brakes, then it has yellow calipers

My Boss' new 911 Turbo S has yellow calipers!
