majority (half + 1)

Abstentions do count as against.

So of the 177 eligable to vote, he needs 89 to positively vote for him.

Just on BBC News website:

Mosley stays on as FIA president

Max Mosley has won a vote of confidence to stay on as president of motorsport's governing body at an FIA meeting in Paris on Tuesday.

Just reading it on P-F1.

Still should make things interesting. Wonder if the anti -Max groups will form a break away.

Bet there will be plenty for the media guys to comment on over the next few days, I wonder when the conspiracy stories will start...

There was talk on R5 Live last night about a deal being done to allow him to stay on to do a handover.

I wonder if the NOTW have held anything in reserve

I'm sure Maclaren and MI5 have something to slip to the NOTW.

Like the conspiracy theorists like to think.

That result will not make the major manufactures happy. Not good for the image of a family product to have the Max baggage attached to it.

I thought Honda, MB, Toyota, BMW had all said he is unwelcome.

The problem is that all the non mainstream (i.e not obvious) clubs are more likely to be of the old boys variety.

The FIA is made up of loads of the country motoring clubs (think AA, RAC type clubs) for consumers rather than manufacturers or motorsport teams are there to support him in return for him not mentioning their past indiscretions as his private parties [purely speculative consipracy on my part]

I'm sure that's the case.

He wins the vote of confidence, gets some credibility back and then leaves quietly when things have quietened down a bit.
