MR2 1.8 VVTi
I was thinking about getting one of these as a run-around for the wife.
MPG and C02 look OK and reviews seem quite good.
Anthing I need to know about them?
TIA

Good car aside from the looks.
The wheels are way too small and do nothing for the styling which I find very girly.
Good choice for your wife though
Just don't be seen driving it yourself

I had one several years ago - excellent handing car with enough power to have decent fun with. Generally reliable - only thing to watch out for is the precat issue. The precats in the manifold are extremely liable to break up and block the main cat. Initially sign is excessive use of oil. My 6 month old car lunched it's precats. The majority of owners gut them as a first port of call.
Only other word of warning is that they have relatively narrow tyres, no traction control and being mid engined aren't the easiest things to drive in the wet - infact they are a bit of a handful.
Luggage space is shocking - no boot to speak of, with only two doors behind the seats, and a small space in the front- so no good for a family shopping run.
I loved mine but they are severely impractical.
Go to MR2roc.co.uk for more uk owners opinions!

I had one and loved it.
Generally reliable. A bit easy to bottom out so when getting one check for sump damage.
The front boot is woeful and NOT waterproof.
Handling I felt was benign, so I imagine you wouldn't find any issues with it. I'll post up a bit more later when i get the time.

Yep I had one too - was brilliant. Had a 52 plate black with red interior.,
The Yoko's are horrendous in bad conditions - in the snow it just isnt driveable.
On a positive it can wheelspin into 2nd
The roof needs to be warm to drop and even then you often have to get out and give it a final push to click it down. Watch for 'ears' where the roof is down.
Storage is crap but you have the CRV for that stuff. there are two reasonable boxes behind the seats and a little space by the front spare - people have been know to remove for more space of course.
When in production they sold TRD extras. nothing added power but the options were reasonable.
I had one of them, the Cooper S and then the S2K, Louise always preferred the MR2 as a passenger.
http://www.spyderchat.com/ is where I used to hang out. Nice bunch and plenty of info - few years ago anyway

Agree with all of the above, especially the narrow tyre / RWD / mid engine issue. I binned mine in the wet - a VERY easy car to write off. Other than the precat common fault there are no reliabilty issues.
Good fun to drive, good fuel economy, reasonable build quality. Would go for one that has leather. The boys over at mr2roc.co.uk are a knowledgeable bunch.
Let us know how you get on.
