Unhappy Mrs_6301 Prangs her car

Well, with all this S2000 specific diesel about I have been especially on my guard for that telltale twitch that precedes the graceful pirouette that we all know and love to hate. In addition, I have banished Mrs_6301 to her Focus for the duration.

Regretably, her pregnant hormones have got the better of her and I returned home last night to find her in floods of tears, able only to burble that she had pranged her car (5 door 57 shape Focus).

Handily for her and for Sprog_6301 (Desig), the prang occurred at approx 2mph, while leaving her works car park. It would appear that when turning sharp left around the end of the heavy duty metal fence, she got too close and has subsequently damaged the rear door (widespread dent over approx 50% of the area, to a depth of 1-2", door handle no longer present) and the rear wing (wheel arch crumpled with scraping of paint but no tears.

To my uneducated eye, it looks like she will probably need a new door skin and maybe a new rear wing, plus spraying. Handily the bumper is OK.

Whilst I realise that TTIWWP, it was exceptionally dark and soggy last night, so pics will follow tomorrow.

My question to the assembled ranks of the great, the good and the downright deviant (yes you, messrs Carper and Bing) is this:

To claim or not to claim, that is the question.

She has full NCB (protected) on her policy, but a

My wife managed to slide her Jizz into the back of an old Mundeo a couple of weeks back ...

Even though there was no visible damage to the Mundeo a new bumper is going to be fitted at a cost of ~

Insurance companies are a legalised protection racket.

If you can get a good metal-basher and sprayer in a pigshed, you can probably get it sorted cheaply.

Furthermore, if it can be done, I'd sooner reshape & fill the rear wing, rather than cut seams all the way round to let the rust get in.

You may even be able to source a MK 2 rear door from a scrappie in the right colour!

Definitely give Jamie at Canada Coachworks in West Byfleet a call (if you want to go that far) and tell him I told you to call him (Jo with the black subaru from before Christmas).

He did a stirling job replacing the front wing & spraying it.

FWIW that cost about

'tis the season - Mrs CB did 850 quids worth (amount to be confirmed - she hasn't shown me the bill yet...) to our new (to us) '56 Civic - getting out of a parking space a couple of weeks back. As the car is also insured for our 17 year old daughter I felt it was just not worth claiming - premium is high enough as is (800 quid )

In her defence she managed to resecure the wing mirror with electrical tape well enough for a 200 mile trip home so I was quite proud

Do I let her drive the S when it comes back from the tuners?? vote now
