Default MX5 hard top

My missus is jealous of the HT I have on my S2k and wants one for her 2003 MX5. I see them for sale on ebay and that but quite often the ad say that it doesn't include the internal catches. Anyone able to educate me on whats required for a MX5 HT?

Cheers

They should already be in the car, have a look.

Good investment as they tend to hold their value and are very snug.

So the MX5 doesnt have a expensive kit to be fitted before a HT like the Honda does? Just a couple of these clips?

I'm 99% certain your car will already have the fitting kit in place.

You should have 2 Frankenstein bolt on the boot of the car and the two plates either side inside the car. The hardtop will come with side and roof fasteners.

IIRC, it was all there and just clamps on.

They were really good cars.

Right...here's the definitive answer:

Not every model comes with the side catchers. Have a look at the plastics next to the seats (outboard side) and see if you can see them. They look just like the striker plates for the fwd catches.

If you don't have them, you will need to remove said plastics, turn them over and find an elongated circle. This is the hole you need to cut so the catches can attach to the bodywork.

These guys have a supply of them, although they are not on the site atm, so ring them up (01489 877770) and speak to Andrew or Julian:

http://www.autolinkmx5.com/mazda-mx-5-parts-8-c.asp

They can also supply the bolts, including the Frankenstein bolts (shiny ones just fwd of the bootlid) for the rear most clamps:

You 'might' need the relay too:

http://www.autolinkmx5.com/relay-horn-hrw-...used-2518-p.asp

If you speak to Andrew, he will happily talk through everything with you...he knows EVERYTHING about these cars

Remember to clear the soft top drains as the rear sills will go...undersealing these is a necessity too

Honda could have learnt a lesson here from Mazda.
Here was/is a modest priced sports car so often sneered at by those with a superior attitude, yet the car had neat hardtop install and better still, a soft folding hood cover instead of the stupid effort by Honda.
