Default "My car is broken"....

So I get in to work this morning to be greeted with "My car is broken, can you mend it?" from the girl who sits at the next desk to me.

Me - "What's up with it?"

Her - "It didn't work this morning."

Me - "OK, so talk me through what's happened"

Her - "It just doesn't work, can you fix it or not? Oh, and it smells"

...Sheesh...

Me - "Look, I'll need a bit more detail. Imagine you went into the doctors and said I'm poorly, what's wrong with me. What would he say?"

Her - "He'd tell me what was wrong and give me some tablets or something"

Me - "OK, so you got into your car this morning, put the key in the ignition, turned it and what happened?"

Her - "Nothing, it's broken"

....This went on for about half an hour....

It seems she's had someone put a new battery in her car 4 months ago but she hasn't used it since. We went outside and the positive battery clamp wasn't clamping properly.

Fixed in about 5 mins.

"It's just broken".....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGG GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Is it just me or do people expect you to magically know what's wrong with things?

Ha. Working in IT I know exactly how this feels. Solution involves some cable ties, a baseball bat, and a big hole in the woods.

NO but she's good at menial tasks that I can't be bothered doing so I need to keep on her good side.

Welcome to the world of Fleet Management!

Although I did call a wheel bearing fault right from 'it's just a weird noise' (99% luck, 1% knowledge )

It's to be filed with the "I know what I meant" comment.

Some people only exist in their own little head.

Or those who never stop talking, but never acutally communicate anything.

Best one I had was at my old place of work.

I was working in IT and the cleaners came out with the following:

'You're a techie, can you fix the lift, its slow'

The entire IT office come to me regarding car problems though!
