Nick - not the electrode tf - the ceramic insulation, so nothing broke inside the bore

the few bits of broken insulation were mostly retained by the plug spanner but I want to be sure nothing is down the hole - thanks for the link Jason

look at the bend on the sucker!!

good luck gad, hope its not bad..

i fancy a bargain basement boroscope

Been spending a lot of time fiddling of late, now have to change the BM oil. I read the service history of my original S2 this week, it's random what they (Honda) have done.. they certainly dont seem to have done things like valve clearances even when they've ticked em off. no gasket sets on the invoice anway..

so.. the moral is DIY i guess? although those plugs would likely put me off

edit to say if the insulation cracked would it be relatively weak? wonder if that one was shorting and fell apart under mild stress from the rubber in your plug spanner?

I will know if I've found the source when I put the new plug in tomorrow

orderd one of those probes - will be here in the morning

I'm not concerned about the debris

my home made suction device will fit down the plug hole to the top of the cylinder and easily suck up any fragments that may have fallen in

the probe is new toy syndrome but I also want one to look inside the sills of two prospective classic purchases

That's a relief - explains why the thinner part of the ceramic core cracked.

Looks like someone was careless with a strap lifting the engine.

My Gilera RS used to crack cores and they'd slide down & cover the spark gap and it would stop - unless it was an NGK plug. It was fussy...

Just been reading this thread after it had resurfaced.

The V12 always was a fabulous engine. Far superior and less troublesome than the V8 in the same series.

Can I be cheeky and ask what the price, mileage and service history was.

Thanks.

It has done 92000 and something miles from new (1996) and has a comprehensive service history. I never post what I pay for cars because somewhere down the line some muppet will think it's relevant to what I'm selling it for. I've even had that from insurance companies when negotiating write off values.

I only got as far as changing the cracked plug (which didn't make any difference) before I was asked to go to Northampton

I have now returned (thank God) so I'll be onto it tomorrow

My spidey sense is saying one of the coil packs but I'll check the other nine plugs

It's one of those misfires you can detect more easily at low revs - through the sole of your shoe when moving off - and it's much less noticeable at higher revs as you spped up

I believe duff plugs can exhaust coil packs, so I'd start with that one first.

yep that will be the order of checking

only one plug is particularly awkward - it's just that with 12 plugs it takes a while!

it's annoying that my code reader can't get any data as I would normally expect that to pinpoint a misfire instantly

however, I have a specialist local to me so may take a run up there and see if he can read the codes
