Bit of a non-story.

Basically, they've told their force to do their jobs properly. i.e. be more thorough.

Meredydd Hughes, the chief constable of South Yorkshire Police, said officers were becoming increasingly frustrated with lawyers who used legal small print to help win acquittals for clients.

The loopholes and the "small print" that Freeman and his ilk use exists almost always because the police haven't done their job properly. If they did, and followed their own guidelines, there would be far fewer cases chucked out on technicalities.

So people will be terrorised into not defending themselves, in case they lose?

Blair's Stazi moves one step closer.

This used to be a free country.

Police are frustrated that lawyers well versed in motoring laws are using small print to win acquittals for those charged with reckless or drink-driving.

Acpo is also introducing a team made up of a lawyer and a former police officer to help prosecute speed camera cases.

Howabouts introducing some more community policemen/women to curb the ever increasing tide of violent crimes and thefts. I just can't think why the public haven't got a good word to say about the police these days

Turds.

Are you mad?

We just had a burglar (457 offences) let off because he's sought help for his drug problems. Poor lamb.

Rat poison in his smack would do that.

What has he cost in terms of insurance claims & investigation time?

The moral of this story is not to consider "serious crime" (like driving at 85 in a 70mph limit), but to stick to "soft crime" (like burglary and drug's) and be safe. Clear message there

The world has gone completely barking mad, our value systems are all the wrong way round.

An example: I was in my local Tesco Metro store the other evening getting a few beers in after a long day at work.

There was some shifty bloke stood next to me who was obviously nicking cans. I actually saw him stuff a can down his trousers.

I discreetly went to one of the check outs and informed the staff. One of the other store workers had also clocked this bloke pilfering.

Bloke gets stopped as he tries to leave shop and is asked whether he has taken any beer, he replies 'no' and is allowed to leave the store. I then proceed to ask store manager why they let him leave and he replied that there is nothing they can do. I imagine searching the guy is a violation of his human right or something

To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement.
