Default New roads

So there's £15b coming along for new roads, announced in a cringe-worthy media event by posh-boy Clegg at Stonehenge.

I won't hold my breath for any significant new roads or meaningful improvements to materialise, let alone appear up North... But WTF proposing a scheme which puts the major road adjacent to Stonehenge underground, in order to enhance the view?

I have no issue with roads to ease congestion and improve infra structure per se, but the huge additional cost to improve the aesthetic around (under) a pile of 5,000 year old blocks of stone suggests priorities are seriously out of whack.

I have to agree.

Also, enhance the view for whom? The few thousand visitors, or the millions of car journeys through the scenery?

Perhaps they're hoping all those nasty PM2.5 emissions from DI engines will kill the naughty motorists!

Hopefully that nebulous 'dual the A47' will include the stretch where the biker totalled himself and we saw the head-cam selfie of the seconds before the crash

They'd have to learn how to do that first..

Or better yet get us Europeans to do it, besides being a lot quicker it'll be cheaper too

I still think that money would be better spend renationalising the railways. If you could get a decent, fast, clean training anywhere in the UK for a tenner, its a no-brainer.

Plus, more people on public transports means less cars on the road for us and spirited driving. I'd like to know who gets these road building contracts. Almost certainly, China.

I kind of in agreement here. One of the interesting stats to come out today was the claim that 90% of freight is delivered by roads. That figure needs to be reduced to nearer 20%. And the rest should be on the railways. I'd much rather they improved the railways, got people out of their cars so us petrolheads can enjoy them in peace

I don't have a railway to my front door, thankfully.

OK, there are a few large factories with rail terminals, but that's about it.

So dream on...
