I'm sure I'd seen a similar design somewhere before. Didn't catch on because the industry hates changing things.

'Tis an interesting design.

What i can't see is what keeps the con rod in contact with the crank rotor when a piston is doing an induction stroke.

EDIT: yes i can.

very interesting design and it because its not too far from existing technology, ie uses conventional pistons rather than rotors etc. i could see this going into production in some form.

i agree.

might be a while before we see it in cars but I can invisage initial applications like lawn mowers / small generators etc etc

With two pistons opposing each other, it'd surely have to be much wider (or higher) than a conventional engine.

The shane engine:
Might find some limited applications but largely pointless. It's still based on a reciprocating cycle and I suspect has all the inefficiencies inherent to that. Too little scope for future development and doubtful to have the leap of improvement required to push the technology forward.
