you might have a point there.

BBC putting the feelers out to see how much of a backlash, if any, losing the TG show would have.
What would they replace it with? A period drama? (No Gaz not that kind of period drama) Some house renovation program?

a change of presenters would be good.

Currently the show is really the Jeremy Clarkson Appreciation Show.

FWIW, the BBC say that it will be back in the summer and they're expecting all three presenters to be back with it.

Surely the first word should be "Fifth"?

They're definitely doing a "one off" summer special (is this what the radio 1 ticket giveaway is for?)

As for a new series I read at the weekend that Clarkeson was annoyed by the anouncement that went out at the end of the last show saying they'd definitely be back.

It seemed like the "dispute" over the three presenter's desire to focus more on the cars ie get away from the celebrity angle.

Michael Grade has been making appreciative noises about the show now he works for ITV, so maybe the whole team could defect?
Same show but 40 mins (exc ads) instead of an hour. Would they then have to assume we've got a 5 second attention span and spend the last 30 secs pre break saying "coming up after the break...." then the first 30 secs after the break saying "coming up in this part....."

God I hope not.

That happens on most BBC shows too, these days. "Coming up later" repeated at 5 minute intervals

I really hope they don't defect - the Top Gear guys moving to Five didn't work, and neither did Driven on Channel 4 really (although it was quite good for a series IIRC).... I hope history doesn't repeat itself..
