Default Nurburgring Advice

I'm planning to take the S over to Germany in mid-May. It looks like there are a few public days at the "ring" during my proposed trip and so I'm planning to stay over for a couple of days locally and put in a few laps.

The thing is I don't plan on paying anything "up front" - just Eurotunnel over and see where I end up (OK, I may pre-book a couple of nights at a hotel near the "ring" just to make sure I end up staying close but that's it and they may just take a card number and let me pay on departure).

I have made similar trips to parts of Europe in previous years and it works well. I like the freedom of not having to be at any particular place at any particular time. I've found some great places to stop over up to now, sometimes miles from anywhere on "B type roads" (I don't like boring motorways either!) and that I'll bet don't see too many foreign tourists turn up on spec. What I don't like doing is paying holiday charges in advance.

My worry is though, do I need to buy "lap tickets" for the "ring" in advance, or can I just turn up and buy these on the day (as I would prefer to do but I'd hate to get there and them not let me have a go round)? I can't understand from any of the websites I have found how to buy "lap tickets" (OK, there are details out there on how much for how many laps etc, but its not clear to me how you actually physically buy the things).

Anyone know the answer from experience?

You can just turn up and buy them from the office there.

Yep its as easy as just turning up in the car park, walking upto the machine and off you go!

It's all a bit weird when your first experience it.

You going this year Kobe?

Yep - Ben Lovejoy's site is excellent!

Go to Sabine's restaurant in the evening, you might even have her daughter as a waitress......

Is that the same Sabine that drives the "taxi"?
