The traction control does seem quite sensitive. Even my mother gets the TC light flashing on her country road driving.

Yes it is boring. That was the whole point of buying it. It was the most boring car I could stand to actually drive.
Boring is a 16 year old 1.9 NON turbo Golf diesel utterly and entirely manual in every respect but totally free for a year except for road tax (£205) ..... that's bangeromics for you! (thank you Pops)
Life at 65mph and 55mpg is so different from either S; which I think is the only way I can do the sensible thing and use it for commuting and dog car activities.
However when I get to be a grown up I might have a posh new dog car ... so I think I have sensible car envy hope it fulfills it's brief and you get a fun car soon.
And yes the BM is a nice colour.

It's actually quite a nice car. My standards are too high. I didn't look at the focus because they didn't do a 170bhp diesel. And the golf/scirroco lost out because their £250 maintenance plans were only 30,000 miles. PLus they're FWD.
Some people say the interior is really boring, but it's a really nice place to be. And the stereo is properly awesome. Just bought a 32Gb usb memory stick to leave in the car. So don't even need my iPod in there.
The start/stop thing is taking a bit of getting used to, but it has an anti-stall feature: if you stall it, it restarts itself

That's cool. Hondas in reverse gear really need that.
I like boring interiors - not these overly ornate tart's boudoir ones.
Last similar car I drove was a Civic Diesel; they've improved them a bit since they first launched and it's a really refined, quite decent car now. Apart form having no windows. But god, was it melancholic to drive!
