Default Optimax price premium.

A local shell station has unleaded and diesel at 98.9p a litre, popped in the other day to fill up the S2k and as I took the fuel cap off noticed the good stuff was 110.9, now normally 6/7p is the difference so I thought this was excessive and told them so, the manager was not interested, but not happy since I'd left the car at the pump and didn't buy any fuel. Went elsewhere and paid 3p a litre less, not a lot but to me it's the principle.

At one BP garage, the normal 95ron petrol is about 103.9p a litre, optimax is 110.9, the Esso stuff is 107.9 about 12mile away.

9 mile down the road in the other town (BP garage) the optimax is even more expensive. I once asked why some places are more expensive than others, woman replied 'Because of lack of/no competition'.

So i believe they can adjust prices if they want.

Unfortunately due to the price shown for 95 I wrongly assumed that the SU would be cheaper too, I'm gonna give a miss for the daily diesel fill up too, I'll(well, the company) will have to pay a penny a litre more.

BP have now stopped doing Ultimate petrol near me and are only doing diesel.

I now regularly use Sainsbury's SUL which I believe is supplied by BP and is usually well priced with only a small markup from 95.

I can't notice a difference between Sainsbury's SUL and Optimax, but I can notice the difference between standard unleaded and SUL.

My S runs fine on the Sainsburys SUL and it is always a good price.

Not sure if the supermarkets use the cleaning additives that shell/esso/bp use. Even if the fuel comes from BP, it does NOT necessarily mean it has the additives.

Might all be bordocks though

All tankers fill up at the same depots / refinerys.

The additives are put in afterwards.

So you might see a Sainsbury's wagon filling at a BP depot, but they probably won't be using the same additive packages.
