On holiday in Rome, it was clear that the Smart has taken over from the Lambretta/Vespa scooter as the 'in' mode of city transport. Literally hundreds of them, in all colours of the rainbow, and not a scooter in sight. They park end-on to the kerb there as well, but I cannot see our Meter Monsters accepting that.

I think they are horrible. I'd rather get a bike if size was the big issue. Or I'd get a restored Fiat 500 - now that's a really smart car!

Try a Ford Ka with air con - you might be surprised. It's small but with useful extra space and really not at all bad to drive. Should be in budget too.
