I have never managed to overtake any small car, particularly SMARTs.

In fact a few hours ago one passed me in excess of 100mph on the M5 again.

I have never seen any small car driven slowly, and I'll include the Pious in that too.
I was overtaken by a very old Swiss (CH sticker if I remember) Citroen AX on the way back from the Arran meet on Monday

Was the middle car in the convoy with 2 S2000's, Think there is even a photo of the event with a very happy looking two people in the AX having successfully passed a Porsche

I guess it's all down to perceptions

People expected an M5 to be travelling fast/faster and maybe there's a perceived pecking order?

Once you have the momentum, it's possible to drive the MINI at close to the same speeds but it seems people don't like it

It's probably good for my driving as I have to plan a lot more

It's a MINI One

I was going to give it to my partner (a woman ) but it "doesn't have enough doors" so I'm stuck with it for now

Tbh it's quite nice to be enjoying the reliability and predictability of something compared to the reverse automotve lottery that was the M5

I put £40's worth of petrol in every 14 days - unheard of!

The One is pretty good. It has a 1.6 engine/100 bhp, which is enough, given the weight of the car

About the only thing I can criticise is the gearing, which can leave you in a bit of a power void until you learn to drive around it - think about how nailing it in third in the S with insufficient revs/speed is somewhat underwhelming - that's the feeling

I had a MINI works thing a couple of months ago and that was very fast point to point
A friend of mine owned one from new. She had no end of problems over the two years and it nearly bankcrupted her as the BMW warranty appeared to not cover any of them!

She also had terrible service from the BMW dealership.

In the end she chopped it in for a Jazz which has been much better!

Bloody hell...

In other news, various sports shops are reporting a cloven-hooved, behorned individual buying up ice-skates.

yeah I thik the early ones had a Chrysler engine or somesuch and build quality wasn't up to much

the current model is vastly improved from what I can tell

dealers seems to vary, but having put close to £100K through mine in the last decade I think I'm perceived to be a fairly good customer and worth looking after

time will tell, but I can't see the beastie causing too many problems based on the experience so far

a good car means you're not very aware of your dealer imo but there are always lemons as Gaspode will tell you

My S has been this for me - had a wheel bearing go in 7.5 years (probably due to an exceeds ability moment i had), just had it's second issue with an air pump fault at 9 years old.

On the speed thing I've started to believed that a much faster road car than the S is hard to justify (but i'll still have one sometime) it's when you get to exploit it that is the issue. On my bike i can destroy most things in the traffic light GP and it's quicker in traffic than any car and lets face it, when is there not traffic .. i still dont do 150mph everywhere though
