Default Parking Permits

Just had the notice through about my parking permit renewal.

Last year, £200
This year, £391

This year though, I can park my car throughout the whole of the borough, rather than in the few streets near my flat where I actually need to park.

I called the council and was told it was due to the DVLA. Clearly it's not, but it is based on emissions, like car tax.

She then told me that - and I swear this is a direct quote - the charges have increased, "in line with I don't know what"

Isn't that absolutely priceless? (much like a parking permit)

So the only benefit to me is that I can now park throughout Islington. Which, unless I'm mistaken, means it is more likely that someone will get in their car and drive a mile across the borough than walk it. Thus increasing emissions.

Still, at least it means that Islington won't have to cut budgets or spending elsewhere.
Hmmm

I have the number for someone who heads up the department, I'll be calling him later.

Makes perfect sense for them - only need to administer one parking permit for the whole borough, rather than several for parking zones A, B, C etc , so it saves them admin cost and a good excuse for them to put up the prices at the same time.

Look like it's gone down for some people, and up for others.

Usual local govt idiocy though to be expected from a Labour controlled Council - you get what you vote for.

When permits were introduce in Wandsworth they stated that these would be issued at cost and that the council would not make any profit from the parking scheme. The initial cost of the permit was less than £50, I can't recall what it is now (I've not had one for a couple of years) but I think it's nearer £100.

I'd love a permit that covered me for the whole borough, I live in Tooting and often need to park in Putney which is 5 miles away. Not if it cost £300.

My local scheme.

I bet these permits are subcontracted including the parking control. On the plus side the only people who are allowed administer a parking fine are the local government. If this is being subcontracted out then the private parking companies cannot fine for 'illegal' parking so you can park wherever you bloody well please.

Interestingly, as I got into my car the other morning two traffic wardens walked past me they showed a similar lack of interest in my car as they did on the car parked on double yellows 10 feet away.

At my old place some joker had come out in the night and burned the double yellow lines off the street, dug up the pavement and installed a drop kerb and single white line right outside my house.

The council never noticed.

It did mean that I always had somewhere to park though....

Good idea Ginge, but I think the owners of the ground floor flat may object.

Sounds like the wardens in Dunfermline, too lazy too get the ticket book out, to the OP, this may mean that they can get rid of a few wardens as there is no need to check who is parked outwith their prescribed areas, so more money coming in and less wages going out, to them a result.?
