Default Porsche

As there seems to be a lot of Porker chat recently, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon.

Which of the models (911, Cayman, Boxster) depreciate the most.

Both in absolute terms and in terms of a percentage of their purchase value? Rough figures would be helpful.

I appreciate there will be factors such as mileage, age, etc that would need to be taken into account.

But let's assume a general, 'like for like' situation.

And again, let's ignore the various sub-models. That's a question for later.

And no, I'm not currently thinking about getting one.

If you buy a new decent spec 997C2 S it'll lose 1K a month, Ouch!

You might get a more informed answer on a Porka forum tbh San. There is FAR too much chit chat about Porka's on here. Anyone would have thought they were special

But you can't really do that, at least in terms of 911s. Not only do you have variants within a "shape", you have different iterations to begin with, all of which have different residual curves....

As a rule of thumb, fairly obviously, the newer the car, the more the scope for depreciation.

997s still have a way to go, although if you buy one that's a couple of years old, you may not lose all THAT much as it's already lost the worst of it. Precise spec will also play a part.

996s depend on age - early 3.4 C2s with high mileage are now sub-

so are 997s gonna lose more as a proportion compared to the new Caymans and Boxsters?

What's the hypothetical budget? To a large extent, that will determine your options more than anything else (which is a statement of the bleeding obvious, I suppose!)
Depends on priorities. Anywhere between

The problem with Porsche depreciation is that it isn't simple to ascertain. Very few sell as Vanilla items, nearly all have a number of extras (not cheap extras either) which rather inflate the price and thus effectively mean that the depreciation is more than the "figures" suggest.

Take any model, add 10/20% to get the true initial value then calculate the depreciation.

As for the "best" depreciating Porsche, I believe the GT3s hold their values best. 911 Turbos also too but AFTER the 1st year or 2 (i.e. buy a 2 year old one and you shouldn't lose too much).

The worst, clearly, are the Cayennes.

Good time to buy a 996 turbo now, but if you can get yourself a good 996 GT3 , I can't see you losing much as hardly any were made. In some colours too there are less than 5 cars ever made, zanzibar red for instance.
