Porsche Cayman
A friend of mine at work has just bought himself a Porsche Cayman and its got me thinking. Its the 2.7 and looking at it on paper it looks quite similar in pace as the S2000, however I've recently had a play on the motorway with a Cayman S and it didn't seem to get any legs on me until its larger engine showed at the top end. So, what are they like performance wise both with pace and handling? Has anyone had any experience of driving the S and a Cayman?
Starlight has owned both and has posted up about it in the past. I expect a search will come up with something. his may be an S though
Having had a pax ride around Spa, I can confirm that it's very nice indeed. It's a bit too civilised for my liking and needs to be driven very fast to be fun IMO.

Hi,
Yes I have Cayman S - Link in my sig to original post about purchase, etc
A 2.7 Cayman will be no better than an S2000 performance wise, A Cayman S as you have described will show its legs once higher speeds become a factor. The big difference between the Cayman platform and the S2000 is the basic handling. Many will describe the Cayman as lifeless and uninteresting as it does its job very well with out any fuss or leery action. Hence yes to get the same feelign as in an S2000 you need to be going rather fast.
Having said that the new GEN II versions are quicker with the Cayman S going from 295hp to about 320hp but obviously you are talking new or nearly new and quite a cost outlay!
There is a post from MB somewhere where he had pax with somebody (forget his name
) who spent most of the lap going sideways in a Cayman S.
While I loved the S2000 for what it was, the Cayman S gives me a refined ride, even on 19" wheels and also gives me the confidence to push it towards my limits (not very fast)on the track and not to worry what the weather is doing.
Obviously if you keep dealership servicing costs are somewhat higher than an S2000. I also stump up for an extended warranty each year and reckon I am financially better off by a nice sum so far.
Below is a link to some old videos of me going round several tracks including a wet Spa. You will notice that even at speed my left hand floats on the steering wheel as its rare that I feel the need to hold on for grim death (yes I know its not the preferred style but all the instructors I have had have been very happy with the way I drove and steered that car.)
