Potential S2000 Replacements
If I had 30 odd K to burn on a Civic, I'd ignore and look seriously at that touring saloon, Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio. Light as a feather and highly rated. The noise it makes and sheer speed, very well balanced and feels like a Ferrari. Probably the finest Alfa made in the modern day. I'd say it's a contender for your list. And keep the S
Remember - you're only a true petrolhead if you own an Alfa . And that one is special, very.

The Quadrifoglio is utterly bonkers, savagely quick but engaging. That's what the press say. 195mph, under 4 secs to 60, 29 to the gallon, fine chassis. Top Gear car of year 2016 or something?
pisses all over most tin tops bar supercars and the odd 100k Porsche.
not a convertible though

Alfa is a 1600kg car
Not driven one, would need a brave pill to own one and while the press always wank themselves silly i struggle with that lard arse
Having said that the little e hides it's 1500kg (I know!) But my old M3 felt every single kilo of it's closer to 2 tonnes than 1

Alfa is 1585kg but near as damn it to your number. New M3 1800kgs. Aston Vantage 1705kg. The Alfa is considered light for it's size, thanks to it's Ferrari derived aluminium engine. I think once your hustling along the package gets better. 50:50 weight dist, RWD with torque vectoring tech.
It's certainly not a bad apple. You're right though, have to be mad to own one. Or anything silly fast, but that's what makes us love cars I guess.
it would be an easy choice if I was in the market for an m3 type thing, without the German badge. 35 grand though, for a used Alfa, no matter what, is the challenge! But for it's speed and prowess, some would say absolute bargain.
Nearly fell over this morning Jason - I saw my 1st Honda e on the m6 motorway. It was tucked in the slow lane - must be the range anxiety!
nice in white this one, but I like your blue colour best

People seriously think it's ok to pootle along at 55-60 to get the range
**** that.. 90 and 50 miles range is better
Mine doesn't leave Nottingham anymore. for that it works but for owt else? ICE ICE baby
Your £35k ageing Alfa is probably more reliable than a £35k ageing Tesla
and faster than a £37k new honda e
I think they basically stopped selling them now

That quadrangle is a 500bhp car in your budget and lighter than the Aston
I think the latter would quickly bore you but might be "nice" to own.. I think they are pretty crude so might not be high maint and you are handy enough.. I've toyed with the idea
Heavy cars are not exciting though, I agree.. aside from when you have to brake hard

Yeh, fair points, but it's also not a drop top, and not something I'd look back at when I'm walking away (although it's pretty for a saloon). It'd have to be pretty special to drive to skip a drop top option AND be effectively a family car on steroids (although I note the weight issue). Not too worried about 400bhp+. It becomes too much for a 'rhymical' driving experience on the road (although the weight will help slow it down!). 300bhp on S2000 weight is plenty. I've always said the Aston would need to drive well for me to buy it (as it does the other stuff well, but what's the point if it doesn't engage me when driving).
I never liked how the Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio looked inside or out, but I drove one. Wow, it's quick. I was shocked how quickly and freely it revved for a turbo engine. Definitely felt like an exotic drivetrain.
