2. i suppose i should of moved off. The BM wouldn't increase in speed or move off, at least i tried to "move" a bit faster.
The only drawback to the S is a lack of torque especially in 5th and 6th

3.i should have dropped to 3rd and gave him a harder time of undertaking me ...
1. Your posts indicated that you noticed the Merc only when he was on top of you. Therefore you had no idea how much faster he was going in the moments he caught you up.

2. No supposing about it. Why hold someone up if they wish to drive faster than you

3. Why do you need to give the driver a hard time

Are you not using the "thou shall not pass rule". Seems like a few contractictions in this thread.

He was only about 2 car spaces behind me it wouldn't have taken him long to catch up if he wanted to. I could not have noticed him because he flashed his main lamps at me.
He wasn't going to go faster than me, we both turned out from the same junction he just decided he'd cut through a solid line whilst i waited till it went to the normal lane markings, he did it because he didn't like the way i came out ahead of him. He was that desperate to prove the point he went through a speed camera in a 50mph zone at around 60 to prove his point only to get ahead of me by about 1 car space. Of course i wasn't going to follow.
We then approached a roundabout where he was on the right lane i was on the left. As i passed to carry on straight, he decided to sound his horn a few times as he turned off towards the third exit to the right...for no apparent reason. As if i was gonna floor it on a roundabout in the wet...

One thing as well i would have moved off if i had the space..the lanes were full...

Roads are full of tossers - happily most of them move out of my way in the Scoob, it's like Moses and the red sea

Except for the tosser in a car yesterday who turned right in front of my in the 7 into my path, I was in a 60 limit they were in a 30 limit, i was already braking fairly hard into the 30 but still carrying some speed. I hit the horn and left it going as a serious warning to stop their maneouvre. They dallied, continued, then waved their arms at the 30 zone which we weren't in yet

Thankfully the 7 brakes are pretty good when warmed up!

I mean don't these ppl get it? All the Fast and the Furious series used modded jap cars and yet they'd still try it...why? I mean if european cars and white vans were so capable i would love to see them in a parallel series the Slow and the Dangerous
Yeah these German cars in particular are slow as $hit, especially these ugly bath tubs on wheels...

Any S with an Alpine stereo and an HKS exhaust will kill that.

So with an impreza do you need to service it and change clutches, brakes and tyres as often as an evo or is it more user friendly?

Servicing is every year / 10k miles, so less often than the S.

Tyres will need changing by 15k miles I guess (11.5k atm and a fair bit of wear left so might get more), but all 4 rather than just rears will need doing.

I haven't run an Evo so I don't know how it compares

the evo is very user friendly. but not so wallet friendly because of the 4500/6mnth service interval. but go into that with your eyes open and you're fine.

clutche, brakes and tyres are not really any quicker wearing that most performance cars. although with the clutch it's a bad idea to sit on it at lights etc. always take it out of gear.

don't mess about with the tyres on the S. when they're getting close to the limit get them changed. easiest way to find yourself doing a waltz in the S is to have worn tyres. i speak from experience
