The devil will be in the detail, but I support the idea in principle.

Why not. The privatised motorways in France and Spain are excellent.
And congestion free.

I too support the principle, but doubt the infrastructure of the companies will succeed in anything...other than making a profit.

Privatisation in this country has not been a good thing thus far IMHO.

Surely if it happened nationwide we'd end up being raped above and beyond the present road tax.

Commuting would become daft expensive and hooning for the jollyness of it would become a thing of the past.

Slippery slope if you ask me.

So long as it's done properly and not as an expedient f uck up like the railways, I'm in favour of it.

The abortion the c unty c untcil of resurfacing round here, I reckon Fred West's driving the machine and dropping corpses under it. That's unfair; Fred West was the perfect builder who never raised a complaint from his customers.

Loftust, if you knew how the companies were being run before, you'd realise what a good thing privatisation was! The fact that the gov't are in their pockets and turn a blind eye to consumers being buttf ucked with a broken bottle by what are in effect, oligopolies, isn't actually the fault of privatisation. It's crookedness that extends throughout the regulation industry - the FSA is another example.

...speaking of which, I'm pissed off of the internet running like a southern region train.

does anyone know where the chairman of BT lives? I'm gonna do him over, and then deny there was ever any problems ever and see how he likes it!

The privatisation of the rail network hasn't exactly gone particularly well, to mention just one example. Trains smell, cost far too much, always late and are overcrowded...although they weren't fab before.

Private companies will always try to maximise profits, state owned ones will try and save as much money...I know which is the lesser of the two evils.

On a side note, if water/gas/phone/electricty companies repaired our roads properly, they'd be alot better. If privatisation went ahead, would they relocate some of the absurdly placed traffic lights that actually cause congestion, or does this belong to a separate authority?
