What car did you arrive in?
What watch did you wear?
Any other revealing brands?
How old do you look, i.e. do you look old enough to be able to afford the car?
Do you talk as if you are from 'da ghetto'?
A lot of sales guys can tell from clothes / shoes / haircut / cleanliness / confidence and other mannerisms such as dialect.
It also depends on the salesman... some can be stuck so far up their own arse it's unbelievable.
I am a youngish looking 31 year old and I notice that I get a different reaction depending on what I wear, but it is very much dependent on the salesman.

Something vintage, but I'd be impressed if anyone knew what it was, and just s/s
that's not me at allI suppose I look my age, which would be old enough to afford the cars
No, but I hadn't said a word.
It's that summing up that interests me.
He did get it wrong in one way, because something he said suggested he thought we were involved in building (there are some pricey new developments nearby) but we weren't dressed like builders per se. Anyway, thst was all after the initial approach.

Do you have an expensive watch? Apparently one of the clues...
Not much jewellery is also a good clue.

Wealthy people tend to have one expensive, tasteful item (such as an expensive, or vintage watch), rather than be covered in Elisabeth Duke.
And as for the building connection, he probably thought you were property developers. Lots of them have plenty of cash to splash on cars at the moment.
Did you engage in chit chat with your mate as you crossed the car park, showing an enthusiasts interest in the cars - pointing, smiling, eyes lighting up?
I expect you looked confident and relaxed and if you haven't sorted your hair out since I last saw you, a little camp

All apart from that last bit is my guess - but I'm a crap judge of character and tend to give everyone the benefit of the doubt
