Qualifying a prospect
to make the most money.. you treat every potential customer the same way..
very well..
or so according to the freakonomics guy.. you don't discriminate. I guess the audi example given shows the truth in this.

The customer is always right, at least till you've had a wee chat and sized them up, and of course if I've f*** all else to I'll pas the time with "window lickers" until someone else comes along.

Yep I agree depends totally on the dealership, for instance Aston Martin/Lotus in Edinburgh were right on me like a fly on poo but Nissan let me stand around lookinig lost for about 30 mins before I left
Same thing happened at one of the Honda dealers near Edinburgh, all the sales guys were standing around having a fag and chatting to each other, I went to their sister dealership in the centre of Edinburgh and came out havinig bought an S2k...
A good salesman recognises that absolutely ANYONE can buy any one of your cars and spends time figuring out if you're just kicking tyres.

I get dismissed almost instantly - don't know if it's my height, gender, clothes - what?
I tend to drop in early in the conversation my job title and I get different treatment then.
Best one was recently at our local Merc dealers. Went along with one of our Directors as she was looking to opt out and wanted an SLK. There was one on the forecourt with a private plate on. I guesstimated that it would be a 55 plate due to the price and look of the car. Salesman insisted it was a 56 so I asked him to check the V5. Off he went and came back rather sheepish saying that it was indeed a 55 plate - little bit of luck on my behalf. His attitude changed then, especially as we were talking and we walked over to my car and got in it. Think he thought it was just two ladies out for a jolly with no real money to spend.
