I am surprised to see that this thread was not about one of your dogging sessions David. :p

Sorry about the accident. :(

:D

Rear ended > taking it up the arse.

Doctor's humour; Accountants prefer double-entry.

My neck has been a bit stiff today, but not the sort of thing to keep me off work.

I'm proud to say I shall not be making a personal injury claim ... :D

Glad you're ok and good for you for not claiming for personal injury! :)

Got a call from the repair outfit and they don't believe the car is economical to repair but an engineer from the insurance company will take a look tomorrow.

I assume therefore my next contact will be the insurers ringing with an offer for the car. I was heartened to hear Fieldl's comment that DL gave him a decent value but I've read on other threads here about people being low-balled.

I'm thinking ahead to any possible negotiations and wondering how I handle it if I feel the offer it too low. We've got an insurance company saying my car is worth X and me saying I think it's worth Y.

Presumably my only course of action is to try and find similar aged Alfa's advertised for sale at prices higher than their offer? What happens in situations where the owner doesn't accept the settlement? Surely he has to at the end of the day?

I've never been in this position before so any advice gratefully received ... :)

my friend had to do exactly that - autotrader find similar age / spec car - she did a table of how much extras add value (e.g. elec windows was £200 more and so on) and then amended the asking price accordingly for each example, gave them 6, they agreed value based on the average of this info, which suited her. Print out of each advert numbered accordingly and so on. Was a lot of leg work though from her end.

Comprise is a good word to use in negotiations until you get to the full and final offer you want I believe, good luck.
