Sorry to piss on your parade, but those rear lights are truly gruesome - as is the rest of the rear-end styling.

My friend has just bought a 545i. I suggested replacing the badge on the back with "520d".
They're still made in Dingolfing (even the Germans think that name is funny).

You could substitute Goggomobil badges for the complete effect!

99-01 cars come with body colour H badges; so a red S would have red badges etc.

Maybe it was M Sport 320d, they have the badges on if only small ones somewhere on the body. Nothing wrong in that if its got the M kit on. Only wrong if it has no M kit or its an overly large M or M3 badge..
Everything is wrong with it IMO.

I hate it.

There are no M Sport badges on the exterior of an non-M BMW including the M Sport cars.

There are some on the interior though e.g. sills, steering wheel and gear stick.

I think it looks ridiculous, even more so when they remove the 320 badge and replace it with an M badge.

On a side note I was impressed by the guy driving a 135 yesterday who had it debadged, you can only tell a 135 by no fog lights, 2 large black satin exhausts and large non-Brembo branded front callipers.... It was a bit of a stealth performance car

There shouldn't be on the exterior.
