I wanted to transfer MOO 139 from my husband's TR4, which he bought new in 1962 and has not been roadworthy for some time, to my S.

When I made preliminary enquires I was told that I had lost the chance because we hadn't declared SORN. I have since been advised that beacuse of the age of the vehicle SORN does not apply but that the TR must have an MOT if we wish to transfer the plate.

I think I'd better think it out again, don't think it's worth the considerable cost of getting an MOT for the poor rusting hulk of the TR just to badge myself as a silly moo!
Idea-

Give it to a TR enthusiast for free but only on the grounds that once he has restored it the plate gets retained but he gets to keep the car.

IIRC you do need an MOT to move a plate for the reasons mentioned above. Pete - is the car MOT'able?
I've bought a 'template car' to use when reassembling my MGB.

The car is on SORN (has been for some time) but no MOT.

It has a registration that will probably appeal to anyone who thinks thinks that you can make any old combo of numbers and letters look and sound funny.

I just see it as way of recouping some money that can go towards the restoration.

I think the car will be MOT-able, but not sure yet. In fact it is definitely MOT-able but I'm not sure if its worth me doing that to release the value of the plate.

May be better to leave as is and the plate would add appeal to a restorer. I won't want to restore it - just use it as a guide/parts identifier, etc.

Have you asked the DVLA, who will probably know the exact answer?
