The remap on my Golf cost me nothing extra to insure. I used Greenlight who were the cheapest anyway !

MPG could be improved likely yes.

FYI we had a Fabia VRS turbo diesel that brought into my mates garage, it had been professional mapped (nothing silly and not by him) from 130BHP to 165BHP which from what i was told is safe and can be remapped for more if you want safely, the guy has covered 40k with the remap car was upto 76k and the turbo isnt working so well now.

I think its highly likely its down to the remap.

Food for thought.

That is a limiting factor (an upgraded clutch maybe an idea) in this case it has nothing to do with the clutch, thats when you'd be pushing too much torque for the stock one to handle.

I personally think the extra power has tipped it over the edge.

Apparently it does make it a negative difference with spirited driving, but can increase when tootling.

I would imagine that it's likely to decrease my mpg by around 10%.

The option I would look at increases the power to around 350-360bhp.

Evolve is a good remap option and they tend to get around 375-385bhp from the N54.

The vast majority of of N54's seem to come out at 320+bhp as stock IIRC 280-290 at the wheel with an estimated 15% transmission loss.

Edt 30 is perfect to remap as it has the Audi S3 / TTS engine.

Very easy to remap to 300bhp.

Been in one that pushes 320+bhp and it was great fun. Lot's of wheel spin in 1st and 2nd but once on the move was excellent.

ls3 has 430hp as standard but it is detuned slightly.

and any increase on 18mpg would be good.

It depends if you can detect it.

A bolt-on tuning box is easy to see, but a stock ECU that has been remapped isn't.

You make your own choices....
what exactly depends? Your ability to inform the insurance company?
