Default Rossi set to pull out of Motegi GP

FFS. It's not like that part of Japan has been evacuated or even anything remotely close. Seems a bit daft to me when you consider the other risks he subjects himself to on a regular basis.

Apparently Lorenzo is also stating he won't go whilst Stoner, who had been one of the first to express concerns about radioactivity, is now saying he may go after all.

Man up, boys ...

When faced with the prospect of heading to somewhere that has potential for nuclear radiation, 'manning up' isn't something that's going to do you any favours...nor will it protect you from the hazards.

I see your point, but radiation has a habit of rearing it's ugly head over a widespread area...even if it's not immediately apparent.

I agree, but I haven't read about that part of Japan being evacuated. Have you?

I think my point is that Japan has contributed hugely to motorsport over the years, particularly in bikes, and I would have thought the riders might want to show a bit more support for Japan post earthquake, tsunami and nuclear incident.

This has really pissed me off. Yes, Motegi is closer to the Fukushima plant than Suzuka, but there's still no danger. I think the report released showed that places like Rome and Madrid had higher levels of natural radiation. I get that radiation is scary because you can't see it, you can't feel it, you can't really defend against it, but there's so much information out there. I don't know why these guys aren't educating themselves and getting on with it, especially given Japan's contribution to MotoGP.
I lived in Hiroshima for a while and the number of people who were worried I could get cancer began to really piss me off. So whilst I admit that I'm probably a bit biased and have a stronger opinion about it than many, I can't help but see all the scheduled shows by western performers/sportsmen/whatever that have been cancelled in unaffected areas of Japan as a real bitch-slap to the people who live there.

Don't they realise that cancer from radiation usually takes decades to appear. They'll be long dead before the cancer appears from riding into a lamp-post or some such.

Pathetic. Just pathetic.

In all fairness Stoner and Lorenzo both pulled out before Rossi did.

If someone asked you to go work 150 miles from a recent nuclear accident/leak, I wonder how many people would go? Despite the facts about the site being perfectly safe I can understand why someone might think twice.
