Default Winter Hacks..

Any suggestions?

I don't use the S2000 very much in the winter and as I fit the hardtop i miss out on all the sunny days anyway...I also find the biggest cost of driving the S2000 through winters is the tyres.... I hardly drove it at all last winter and this is the first time i had a set of tyres for more than a year..... So this is the last weekend of the summer! i wouldn't mind having something to combat any big freezes... has to be reliable ... I'm not too bothered about fuel consumption as I don't rack up that many miles.

I use our old vec diesel. You want something with a good heater, decent fan and a big lump over the fwd or 4wd

Anything old is cheap as chips

It's a car which isn't really that expensive in the overall scheme of things so why not use it all year round?! Rather use it than drive around in some heap for half the year

I run a 1.0l K11 Micra... the thing's indestructible. I was fortunate enough to be given mine for free. I change the oil once a year and that's it so far as maintenance goes. Very easy to work on. Not so good for motorway work mind you.

When it dies I'm planning on replacing it with a disiesal Passat estate, or similar.

I put winter tyres and winter wheels on the S, cost me about £400 all in and I was able to overtake everything on the road in the snow we had last year in the South. Even Range Rovers got stuck on their silly summer tyres and I went straight past.

Cheaper than running a second car.

I got an old 325 BMW with a welded diff for winter fun and my god is it fun. 500 quid and it is a beaut. 200 thousand miles on the clock and still hooning strong. Full leather interior and it really is just an extension of my living room haha!! I use it as a daily now and it has completley changed my outlook on the DC2. When i get into the DC2 now it is always out of choice, never because i have to commute. Best money i have ever spent.

Nice, Willis. Thats the kind of thing I'm after for the winter! Something cheap but RWD to skid around in the snow without fear of smashing up the S
