My exhaust has definatly helped out in this type of situation. Keeping a nice safe distance, putting it in 5th and approaching on the loud pedal tends to move anyone infront a lane to the left before I'm within 2-3 car lengths, most of the time.

If they don't move I back off at a safe distance and give them a bit of time, I don't undertake .
