How embarrassing. A tigra and Citroen are more reliable than the S.

Exactly, there are lies damn lies and statistics. German engineering is some of the finest in the world, nonetheless buying parts or having mechanical issues on a German vehicle can be an expensive past time, then again HONDA know how to charge too ...

I like the Boxster S, except for the fact that it sits too high in the arches looks like a pram, then again so does a standard S2000 ... good cars though and may well be my next should I decide to move on from the S2k.

Very odd statistics there, the only faults showing for the S2000 are engine at 25% and braking at 75%. Everything else at 0%. I would suggest that the data collection is flawed.

Best answers as always, lie on the forums. True enough, join up to a 987 forum and seek all you can about issues before you buy. 987's themselves are the pick of the Boxsters for outright value for money, speed, equipment, poise and looks. The 986 is dogpooh in comparison.

Like with TCT issues on some of the middle aged s2k's, it would steer me well clear now of 01-04's, after owning an '02 that slapped the guides like a good 'un. My '00 had nowt wrong for 2 years of owning.

Wheel arch gap? What wheel arch gap

Certainly one bonus over the S2000 is that you can get the geo done without resorting to a reciprocating saw..

Or that Warranty Direct don't pay out on anything else they consider 'wear and tear' items.

What else fails on these cars that you could make a warranty claim on?

I doubt they would cover seized Geo. They could argue a rattling cat still works.

it's funny, i've never really considered the Boxster but maybe it's just too similar to the S2 (which i wont ever flog )

the S does sound nice and feels like a more grown up S to me, less edgy, more grippy... Had a pas ride in a newer Cayman S and that thing was bloody capable and a technical tour de force, it could destroy it's tyres manfully while not going sideways at all really.

i think a car like that would be too similar to my car though whereas the M3 is very different

i do think they're a bargain used if you find a looked after one

The site says they only publish statistics when they have a sample of 50. Looks like your perception is flawed.

Take a look that the Jazz http://www.reliabili...lity/search/123 only 2 problem areas there. Details on how they collect the data here: http://www.reliabili...dex.com/what-is

Or simply look at what Honda and Porsche charge for their respective extended warranties. £399 for the Honda and £1,045 including £216 mandatory inspection for a Boxster. Link

Also note that Porsche only offer a 2 year warranty from new, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I also have a BMW E90 diesel that I've owned for a few years, other than a faulty fuse and a UJ on the steering column it has been flawless.

If you read the BMW forums then it should have imploded in a burst of electrical and mechanical failures by now. I do ignore the BMW long life servicing nonsense, that is a bearing killer.

You do realise that is an insurance company? Flawed perception is funny!

I'm trying to find a link that I had to the US vehicle fault reporting statistics, massive catchment and government run so data is of all reported faults and not just the demographic that happens to buy warranty insurance from a particular company..
