The styling of their cars have been so uncool I'm not surprised they sank. Volvo has done a good job as the style conscious purchasers won't think they are bloody ugly - like they used to be.

The loss of SAAB will help Volvo's fortunes under Geely, it's true.

Despite Ford's fiddlings, they had managed to produce more convincing Scandomobiles.

Such is the nature of consolidation.

They are a lot stronger now Ford aren't selling cheapo badge-engineered versions alongside.

Ford is a company run by people unusually dull (even by accountancy standards) people who haven't got a f ucking clue how not to ruin a semi-prestige brand.

Peter Horbury was back in charge of overall design. Apart from a rather Honda-like decision to power everything by tiny turbo fours, they should be able to regain a lot of their old ground.

In the past they've been good cars, but now look at what they are up against with their current range and they just cant cut it, the saloon range is not bad looking but again when you compare it to BMW's etc etc they don't look as good cosmetically.

The car industry is highly competitive, i often wonder what would have happened if Rover didn't sell the mini brand to BMW? BMW knew what they were doing as its actually BMW's best selling car of all time, a guy who used work their told the mini was almost complete at the time, however it would have been reliable, we'll never know.

Can't see it. They have a good range of fresh cars that are gaining good reviews and selling well, nor can I see Geely bailing out after that level of investment.

Saab on the other hand had a couple of models long past their sell-by date.

Says the XC60 owner
