Default Schumacher next year.

The possibility of him racing seems to have taken a step closer if Ferrari are to be believed.
Mercedes and Brawn must have one hell of a car if he is being tempted and I for one will be having a punt on him winning the championship next year which I personally think he will do if he makes the step to race.

He's in a no lose situation, assuming his neck has recovered...

If he fails, he'll say its the car - a 7 times World Champ can't possibly be to blame and if he suceeds all well and good...

Remember he has been three years out of racing in F1 and who knows whether Mercedes will produce a championship winning car? (I think it will be competitive)

As I said above no risk to Schumacher's reputation...

Ooooh! There is a big IF!!!

Though, strangely, I suspect that Ferarri are to be believed in this instance.

Though I think that Mercedes will have a decent car next year, and I dont think this is the be-all and end-all for Schuey.

I think there are two things driving his return - the fact that he started his professional racing career for Mercedes and, crucially, that his old chum Ross will be running the show.

It will be fascinating to see how he goes, but while I dont think for a second that the car will be a dog, I suspect it wont be the class of the field either.

It is shaping up to be a great season......McLaren should be back on form, Button / Hamilton contest will be fascinating (whilst I hope I am wrong, I think Jenson will be 2nd best), Teflonso in a Ferrari, Schuey at Mercedes.

Cant wait!

From an even more (!) reliable source than Ferarri:

Great news

He is still twice the driver and tens times the competitor of most of the field

I find it hard to believe he'd want to do this. I guess it is Ross Brawn to a large extent, but it still seems a bit of a gimmick, like the rumours of Rossi joining F1, or Loeb. This being Schumacher he'll probably be up to the task, but there's a risk that 3 years out will be too much and he'll be a bit of a sad old man driving round at the back talking about his former glories.

Can't see that risk myself

He's too clever and too calculating to make any kind of fool of himself

The car will not be crap

Athough even if it was, I still think he is one of those few drivers who can achieve more with less machinery iykwim

Obviously have no idea what his motives are but I reckon he wants the unanimous respect he desrves, he wants to be known as the greatest ever, which in my book he already is but what better way to prove it behond any doubt than come back and win the championship. This is a film script being played out in real time. I just cant wait.

I wonder if both Mercedes drivers will be given the same opportunities? The lack of a "competitive" team-mate is really the only blot on Schumacher's copybook.

It'll be interesting to see how well Rosberg performs. Having Schumacher there will certainly help him with regards to car setup and so on.

He is an arrogant cheating bastard. Hope he gets a good spanking next season.
