Afternoon all,

I'm hoping some oh you would have a bit of input into a car choice for me, I'm keeping the honda and looking to get another car to use on a more frequent basis, work journeys, crap weather that sort of thing.

stay away from the merc and alfa's if you want reliability. That said, you might actually get a good one, but it's unlikely.

There's no 2.5 in the diesel BMW's.

I'd be looking at some cheaper less image conscious alternatives. The Accord is actually a really nice car to drive and sit in, as a cruiser. A mondeo really is as good as they suggest.

Can't really go wrong with a Passat or A4 TDI either.

OK so these aren't very exciting, but really, do you need exciting if you've got the S?

I bought an 02 Volvo S60 T5 for under 7K to do the stuff you have listed. Shit badge I guess and not cool at all, but it has done a lot of miles recently with no problems at all. Really comfy, quiet and has a decent stereo etc etc. Out dragged quite a few more expensive motors too

True about the Alfa I had a 147 that lost me a fortune, and the accord just does nothing for me - been in them lovely drive and interior I agree to that!

Good point about the excitement but I'm thinking about keeping the Honda for as long as I live - its a future classic! Also I need it for work when I'm on a client site so the BMW/Alfa kinda fits.

330Cd is a better bet than the 320Cd.

It's quite common for 320's to have turbo problems...

FWIW, the 330Ci (petrol) is fun and pretty frugal, truth be told (38mpg on a run, 28mpg average) not too different from the derv...

Oh, and before you commit to a diesel, make sure you do the sums on the mileage you expect to do. You need to do large mileage to offset the premium you pay for a diesel. Some cars work out, others don't.

325Ci is a nice car. not that much slower than the 330, and still sounds lovely.

If it is just a run about, why not save half the money and get yourself a few years old Golf or A3?
