The paper element ones tend to be upright and you dont spill any oil.
Apart from replacing a few 'O' rings its far easier and I dont know why
all manufacturers dont adopt this method.
The usual ones hanging down right over your drive shaft etc, well its
just a load of rags placed underneath. I suppose you could hold a
plastic bag under it as it spins off.
