Shell V Power Nitro+
V Power Nitro+ averages around 8p more per litre than regular, however recently, I've seen that as much as 13p dearer.
As for all fuel being equal - it's too simplistic to say it is - the location in the world from where the original crude is drilled determines the quality of the output (eg. some crudes ielding better Gasolines than others). However, the difference between what the individual retailers' fuels are the additives and blending components to get those extra "octanes".
Our chemical engineers (I work in O&G) are adamant that High Octane fuel is pointless, irrelevant of the car.

That's normal for Middlesborough, surely?
Anyway. I always use Shell V-Power in the S2000, and the price difference is usually around 10p per litre. Given the fact that I have done approximately 5000 miles this year in the S, it's not a huge premium.
If there's no alternative I'll use Tesco's super-unleaded with added horse.
I always run my car on 98 or 102 oct fuel

Shell have promotions periodically, the recent one was quad points if you spent over £75 a go.
I emptied my M3 down to 12 miles and filled up 97 octane @ 117/9p/litre.
Spilled out at £70 ... awaiting hearing their comments

So you got yourself 28p (silly guess) worth of points, impressive.
Have always used Shell Optimax, and now V-Power Nitro+, on all performance cars I have had. As someone mentioned, it is the cleaning agents that were, and continue to be, the draw, in addition to the higher octane rating.
I have read somewhere that fuel available at supermarket forecourts is less clean/optimum than those available from branded suppliers. Of course, this may be a load of bull. It doesn't bother us since our daily drivers, that take 95 RON fuel, get whatever fuel we can find at the best price, and usually supermarkets do have the better price.
