I have a Subaru Legacy and it was great in the bad weather. Saloon car with AWD.

Its not been very reliable since, but then it cost £350 (N reg)! A budget of £2K would get her something much newer and therefore reliable.

Renault Scenic 4x4. Just like a LR, you've got to be insane. Might as well buy a buss pass or a bicycle.
Who said a scenic was like a landy ? Certainly not me mate. I was simply giving an alternative car which happens to say it is a 4x4.

Reno's, as most french cars, get a bad rep for reliability but I've known loads of people with reno's, and even some with citroens, for whom have never had one single problem with them - until that is they have done loads of miles (well over 100k) and are knocked about pretty badly.

If you can get a landy get a landy though ! Got a 109 and love it ! But it doesn't give over 40mpg that's for sure !

You've missed the point totally - they're both utterly unreliable, troublesome POS. That's the "Discovery" referred to in the title!

I wouldn't have an HR-V either, it's under powered, needs a 6th gear for motorway cruising and the mpg is woeful if you use what power it does have.

The 4x4 system can give problems if the clutch assembly isn't maintained properly and it's not cheap to replace the parts if it goes wrong either.

The interior is pretty bland too for such a funky exterior, seats are also a bit 'thin' for longer journeys and also not much lateral support.

Too true.
My BIL runs an independant, and an ex dealer tech himself.
And even he knows hopw crap they are but hey, it makes him a good living now.

This one is a long term company rental.
And costs me nothing fortunately.

OT I followed a Yeti up the M5 today.
Now that is really one ugly piece of crap.
Lada Riva with a facelift.
