I'm not sure that modability should be included in a comparison (well, it wouldn't be if it were my comparison). I don't see what Paul Weller has to do with hondas anyway

You might have included looks instead and that one is no contest unless you're a committed DC5-er.

Sorry Neil but that just reads a little like purchase justification

If you are being fair in what you say then the DC5 must be lightyears ahead of the Civic Type-R because my mate has one and we've swapped cars and agreed that on UK (scottish) roads the S2000 is faster, more planted, more fun, stops quicker, doesn't skip about, provides more feedback, etc, etc. In fact we agreed that 90% of the advantage was derived from the platform of the S2000 (front engine, RWD) and its low centre of gravity.

I've not driven a DC5 but having driven a Type-R (Front engine, front drive) back-to-back with the S2000 in anger I can say that to compete the DC5 will have to be night and day superior to the Type-R.

I will however say that when I drive these cars hard I drive them HARD and I don't get the impression you push cars to the same degree. Maybe at the limits you drive they are more of an equal?

260bhp? that's a hell of an increase isn't it?

i don't know much about these 'itrs' because i don't like the looks at all so despite the rave reviews i don't really dig into it.. if you can tune it that easily it must have a very different engine to the S?

No purchase justification from me - from a driving perspective the S2000 is the better car in almost every way, I'm not debating that, and was aware of it before I bought the DC5.

What I commented on was your point that "As a car enthusiast I want a car that is quick, corners well with good stability, brakes well, is responsive and fun to drive especially during better weather" - the DC5 can provide all of those things. The S2000 is better at them on the whole, but that doesn't mean the DC5 isn't also a good drive. In some respects it is 'better' eg I find the DC5 can corner at higher speeds on well-surfaced roads being lighter and more firmly sprung. There's literally zero body roll.

It's also widely acknowledged that the DC5 is way ahead of the CTR, although I've never driven a CTR myself. I have owned both cars and did 20,000 miles in my S, so I am well-placed to make comparisons.

I do push my cars hard, I just don't bang on about it like some heros on here.

with Neil... I have driven a EP3 and DC5 back to back and the civic failed to impress as much. The driving position felt all wrong and I have little personally to say for the looks on them either! - whereas I thing the Integra looks good!

The integra uses teh same engine as the Civic but its tuned sligty less restrictive due to the emission regulations and fuel from japan.

But on a bumpy Scottish road would the DC5 skip and crash about as much as the Civic which was IMHO bloody terrible!! The S2000 was glued to the road by comparison.

Given they're intrinsically the same car, the DC5 does have some useful advantages;

The slightly different scuttle position removes the slight 'Issigonis' feel to the driving position.

The hydraulic PAS has less worse feel than the electric.

The rear bulkhead means better body rigidity.

The LSD improves traction, as does the uprated suspension.

The downside is teh suspension is acknowledged as being too hard for UK roads, though.

It's a shame the Integra line is allegedly to be discontinued, though.
