For a 120 mile commute, a hoop & stick would be about as much fun.

For a 120 mile commute, I'd move house, or job...

Tell me about. I've only been in the role ten months. Feel loathed to switch jobs so soon. My S already has 68k on the clock so I want to get some money back out of it if I can.

My wife had a ForFour for a year.
She loved it
I hated it
Overpriced, expensive to service (merc dealers!)
Very plastic

We had one for a year or so and I used it to commute in. 1.5 petrol, relatively quick and frugal on the motorway a bit noisy approaching 90. There is not much space inside especially the back though and the residuals on resale were about the same for any other car of this sort. I thought the manual box was alright for a front wheel drive car nothing special. The auto was a pay option. Merc servicing was steep but the intervals were long - variable ours came in at 17k miles.

Overall when we bought it it seemed like a good idea but after 6 months you feel so self conscious in it. A bit of a fashion victim.

HTH

If the S has to go then that will be a sad day

Then get a Suzuki Swift (new one) or the Fiat Panda 100hp. These are on a par with the 205 gti of old

If you can keep the S as a weekend / sunny day car

Then get a diesel beater like a polo or 206!

I'd hold out for a Fiat 500 or a Suzuki Swift. I'd go for the 500 as it's a gorgeously styled little car. The Swift because I've driven a couple and they are handsome enough, well built fun little cars.
