Default That smell!

Unique to old cars (by which I mean pre-1980)

Interior or under the bonnet

I have been tyrekicking and I have also regained my motivation to put my MG back together

I know what you mean, my Dad has a Triumph TR5, TR6, and a Frogeye, they all smell exactly the same! Can't really desribe it but they must have all had the same leather, plastic etc!

I know that smell too. My old man has a '62 one-owner TR4. I think the smell is mainly the old leather. His is powder blue piped with navy. (There's still a pair of one of his previous gf's leather gloves in the glove compartment which the mice have nibbled, and another's lipstick in the door cubby.)

The seats are stuffed with horsehair I think which must add a certain je ne sais quoi to the aroma.

It has a racing handbrake, which I found a bit stange when I used to drive it and a quick-release fuel filler cap.

My first car, a triump herald convertable used to have that small. Even when you put the hood down and put it back up again, you'd think the smell would have blown away. But no, it would still come back.

There wasn't a hint of leather in the car, so i can only think it came of the carpets and vinyl seats.

My first car was a G reg cavalier, which had a smell that my dad said smelt of teenagers, it was actually fags, booze and BO.

My Dad has a 1969 Morris Minor that my Grandmother bought new. It has that smell.

I had a 74 MGB, that too had the smell. I had a couple of great years out of it till I had to make the decision whether to spend the several grand it needed to keep it going or not. I decided to let someone else do it. I don't regret it but I do miss it, will have another one day. It was just as much fun as an S2000, just at half the speed

You just need to get a good straight one and stick a Rover V8 in it.
