I think they're hilarious whether they work on not.
People bombing through then braking hard when they see the camera. Don't they know what "average" means?
My other theory on these is that the cameras are paired rather than in sequence. So once you pass the second camera you could floor it to the third as camera 3 will be paired with camera 4.
I'm not so desperate to get through the roadworks to test this theory though - although I think it came in handy on the A610 in Nottingham. If you happen to realise too late that you've gone through one SPECS cam way too quicly ehen they're on a normal road just stop for a cuppa and proceed. Average brought down, Bob's you Auntie's live in lover!

Hopefully not. I went through the permanent one on the A43 near Northampton yesterday. For once the digital dash on the S is comes in handy: you creep up to 51 so then you do 49 for a bit to balance it out.
Understandable that they have that as clearly 51 mph on a nearly empty dual carrigway on Sunday morning is extremely dangerous.

What?
You can measure anything you want so long as you know the distance between the cameras, even multiple ones. Easy enough to network a few NPR cameras into some software.
