Default SPECS loophole confirmed

Avoid a ticket by changing lanes

Some good news at last

"Police chiefs were last night forced to urge drivers not to exploit the shortcoming by trying to evade the cameras."

Didn't know that the SPECS were made near where we live :gulp:

There is a dual carriageway from the M3 where we see the new test rigs fgoing up on occasion but Camberley based SCS. Hmmm.

I want to become a NIMBY

So it's not that the cameras can't detect your speed if you change lanes, but you can't be prosecuted if you do.

Whose bright idea was that then?

The whole camera policy needs to be reviewed resolved.

1. Sort out this loophole
2. Turn off the cameras when work is not being carried out (eg nights) or at least have variable limits depending on conditions, weight of traffic, time of day etc.
3. Red light cameras on every traffic light (particular bugbear of mine, red lights apparently only apply if you want them to)

I'm not going to try it, especially as it rarely makes a huge difference to journey times.

As for 2. above, I'm not sure that's always a good idea, especially where lanes have been narrowed through roadworks, given the problems many drivers seem to have staying in their own lanes at 50mph.

As for 3. You've been living in London too long

I wouldn't use it to try and go through the roadworks at silly speeds

However, I will admit to have sometimes taken my eye off the speedo or missed a camera and been concerned my average might be a little high

In which case I will change lanes

Or my usual trick of hiding behind a truck

Of course, dirty number plates help

A mate of mine has been doing this for a few years now and has yet to get a speeding ticket! The 50mph roadworks on the M1 near Notts/Chesterfield were a particular one that lane changing seemed to work ok. Quite a large flaw I would say..

I have thought about wearing a fake beard as the owner of the supercars I drive has a real one.

Strangely, he wasn't keen for me to do this when we were out and about last weekend.

That article is from 2006, what are the chances they've addressed it since.

Whilst lane-swapping may increase the risk of a collision and remembering how many sets you're into can be an issue, the point is avoidance at all costs.

If only to prove that the overlords' neo-religious obsession with arbitrary limits is utterly bogus as well as risible. If the SPECS they put there cause more collisions then not putting them there, the solution's self-evident.
