Default Stupid Driving

Today I did a completley stupid experiment and I drove to work (through London admittedly) entirely in 2nd gear.

Apart from the start in 1st and from stopping.

I have to say it was quite good fun with lots of revving action

Anyone else doing something similar?

Interesting experiment.

I think I might feel it necessary to gear up when I reached the A19 slip road though.

I used to do this in my 406 V6. I'd pull off and cruise in 3rd gear and never change at all. 3rd was good for 0-90mph and pulled off with ease as it was a 3.0l

Try driving with your legs crossed. I tried it once in my Golf and it's very odd. I wouldn't recommend trying it in the middle of London.

Again I used to do that in the 406 with the cruise control set. I'd drive for ages on the motorway at 85mph with my legs crossed on the drivers seat. The only problem is that the reaction time from an incident to applying the brakes is about a mile and a half

I've driven several hundred miles without using the brakes. that's good fun. You REALLY need to plan ahead.

Oh, and for more fun, on a manual hire car, learn to change gear without using the clutch

Listen to the grind

I've done the gear change in a hire car thing quite a lot

I do it on my own bike too

The challenge is to do it without grinding. It can be done.

I know, I was meaning during the learning thing

Accelerate, back off, push in to neutral.

Blip revs slot in to gear
