The past couple of weeks have been pretty stressful for us, so this was the first chance we had to get away from it all and enjoy our favourite pastime; driving some of the great roads the north of England has to offer, and taking in the beautiful summer scenery of Lancashire, Cumbria, Durham, and the Yorkshire Dales.

Spooky, Kate and I went up into Swaledale yesterday to walk the dog and were watching the lapwings chasing the crows off their nests above Reeth.

Finding quiet roads is a matter of - local knowledge and experience, common sense, and a bit of good luck.
