Just forget about it.

All we do is whinge and complain and then do nothing.

The country seems very good at bitching on the internet and then when asked to do something proactive would rather sit on their arses.

We just give the government the green light to do as they please, they know that we will blindly accept whatever they chuck at us.

As P&P said we could do with a bit of civil unrest, when was the last time that happened? Oh right, the poll tax riots (not suggesting we should riot) and look what happened there.

Have been pushing the idea of all non key workers staying at home one extra day a month for as long as it takes until something is done. No one likes the idea, I mean who doesn't fancy an extended week-end?

This rant isn't aimed at anyone here, just a general observation on the situation.

The end of poll tax? Which was a better system in a lot of ways.

Not what I am arguing. Just that it shows that people power can sometimes win.

But the media has made people scared of complaining about fuel prices. It's all about global warming - bollocks!!!

There was another tax hike on fuel recently because the government knows that no-one dares speak up against them.

Sorry I thought you were being cynical about how these protests never make a difference. Which of course they didn't back in 2000.

With the ecomentalist brigade calling all the shots, and the amount of congestion, there isn't going to be a reduction in fuel prices. And I'm not entirely sure whether I think there should be. It would be nice if petrol was half the price, but it would only encourage more people to take to the roads and more congestion which is bad for all of us that like to drive for fun.

It's Vive with an 'e', something to do with the subjunctive tense or some other foreign gibberish, but I'm with you 100% on this one.

It's about time the government's nose was bloodied a little.

Do you drive less because of fuel prices?

I don't.

Quite an interesting Q&A session regarding surging oil prices here from the FT.
Things are only set to get worse before they'll get better, this is amplified somewhat in the UK with the double duty we ingeniously pay on petrol.

Which leads me to Gads thread on what tax next, well we've had taxation on tax itself for a while now, doesnt that piss you off?
But as San so rightly pointed out, apathy is king in this green and pleasent land.
