Default Tesco Fuel

There's been some talk of Tesco fuel (99 and 95) causing problems on another forum recently.

My GF fills her car up this morning, and just 10 miles later gets a CEL...I highly suspect it's an O2 sensor problem, due to the fuel. I really hope the Cat doesn't get killed by a tank of it.

...I'd avoid using them for a while.

Has anyone suffered with this before, and if so, how did you go about raising the issue with Tesco? If any damage has been done, I want Tesco to fork out.

It happened a few years back too.

Their tankers got contaminated with silicon (or silicone) & f ucked people's λ or O2 sensors. They had to replace quite a few, IIRC.

It's funny you should mention this.

We run our cars solely on Tesco 99, and as some may know we bought an S2000 a couple of weeks ago. It was running perfectly up until next weekend, and now it's having a few small running issues which looking through the forum history is accountable to O2 sensor issues.

I wonder if it is related... Fuel was purchased in the West Midlands.

Just text Mr CJ and asked if his warning had stopped coming on intermittently on his Golf as due to recent job change he now doesn't fill up Tesco and yes, it has!

I've stopped using it after hearing of issues with 99 from a couple of engine mappers. Used to swear by it but it seems to go off badly and quality varies. You can see it on knock count.

BP or Shell for me

I used it when we had the panic buying shortages as Shell were sold out of V Power....I'm now getting a CEL warning and engines misfires when I drive hard between second and third. There is no cat. Could this be a fuel related problem or something else?

I've always used V Power since installing the Mugen ECU.

If anyone suspects they have issues, call 0800 50 55 55. They are pretty good there and will log everything you say. You'll also need to go to the store you bought the problematic fuel from and fill out a contamination form if you wish to seek any recompense for what has happened.

Haroon...not sure about yours. The O2 sensor should still pick up problems with fuel, regardless of whether you've got a cat or not.

Confirmed problematic areas:

South Wales
Manchester
Midlands
Northumbria

...all in the last couple of days, all with O2/Cat problems, all using Tesco fuel.
