Thieving Scumbags!
Unbelievable!
I keep my Land Rover (the other "other woman") on the military base where I work. Recently I have had to rebuild the gearbox at the base's very well equipped Car Club and the Landy has been sat outside for about a month with no issues.
Last weekend, I discovered that someone had been borrowing my tools and returning them in less than clean/perfect condition without my permission. I suppose that this was inevitable, as I had left my tool box on the bench next to the gearbox in the workshop. So, I removed the padlock from my fuel filler cap and put it onto the toolbox - problem solved.
Having spent 4 hrs struggling to refit the gearbox, I had finally got everything plumbed back in and tried to fire it up - turns, but no bang! We tried everything, even re-configuring the distributor, before I noticed that the fuel guage was below empty and the pump was sucking on air.
I put 85 litres into that tank before I started work on the car, so the only assumption that I can come to is that some pikey has syphoned 85 litres of petrol out of my tank - Furious!
Off to make a statement to Plod at 1100...

Ours is sticking with the Perkins diesel it's fitted with though, nothing lairy like yours

Similarly, I have the entire injection system from a Rover Vitesse (not twin plenum unfortunately) in a box somewhere if you ever need anything. One day i'll get round to fleabaying it.....(I've been saying that for 3 years).
So is it worth using a lockable petrol cap on the S2000?
Some are a bit bulky and could foul the door.
I know the average thick thieving oik would be unable to find the release, but it is still not a very secure arrangement.

Well.... It does still have the "Diesel Only" tally below the filler cap....
I really really really hope they did put it into a diesel, but having suck-started it, even the densest thief might well realise his mistake?

From memory the SIII we used to have had a gauze/mesh filter at the base of the lift up/extending filler (unless that comes out completely) that would prevent siphoning.
Was this not a feature on the 90s and 110's?
