I cant seem to find the thread on the US part of the forum but there is a unit that retro fits nicely into the ashtray housing for all you non smokers out there

The old garmin unit, i've seen that, pretty useless tbh as if you go on audio instructions alone you are likely to get on the wrong track, you need to be looking at the map scroll as you drive... obviously you cannot do this if it is located down along the transmission tunnel!

Just resurrecting this thread as I now definitely need to purchase a Tom Tom with detailed Euro maps, I've seen this as an option:

Tom Tom with Euro DVD maps

I have a digital camera SD 256MB memory card, I assume I can use this with the Tom Tom One? Is there a cheaper way of getting reliable Sat Nav inc Europe?

I was also thinking the

not 100% sure but do you maybe need a 2GB card for the european maps? i may be wrong...

i bought the TomTom One v2 (uk maps) from currys.co.uk last week -

I helped setup a friend's TT One and got away with a 1GB card. She'd bought the UK map only, and had then subsequently bought the French map as an add on. I managed to fit both maps with room to spare on a 1GB card, but if IIRC correctly, the total space taken up was around 0.5GB.
