Which track car?
Here's an MX-5 leaving me behind at Donington. Admittedly, a much better driver than me, and I was backing off a bit on the straights - I figured there was no point in overtaking him, then holding him up through the corners.
It was all stripped out and so on but it looks a lot of fun.

I have found the perfect car for my needs, although the budget is out the window

The cheapest option is probably sitting in your driveway/garage.
The S2000 is a great track car* and suprises quite a lot of more expensive machinary.
*it's not as good as an Elise mind!

The parts are cheap, the engine is ace, reliable and if you want anything doing to it (suspension, ECU tuning, Hybrid engine swap) I have done it all
